As most of you probably know, apart from the rescue kennels we also have 14 boarding kennels and the financial income from these is vital to our rescue work. Boarding kennels are of course so different from rescue kennels. Of course all the dogs we have at the centre are loved and cared for but a boarding dog is a much loved family companion in our care.
From time to time we've had the odd scare with a dog becoming ill, sometimes suddenly and such an incident happened this afternoon. A collie who has stayed with us many times and with no known medical problems had come in today for a couple of weeks. Whilst going out for its evening walk it suddenly collapsed and appeared to be having an epileptic fit. Fortunately the 2 members of staff who were there dealt quickly and efficently preventing the situation from becoming very serious when her tongue blocked her airway.
We then rushed her to the nearest vets and by the time we'd arrived she virtually fully recovered. After acheck over and an injection to calm her down, she was on her way back to the centre. From the time it happened to the time we were on our way back - less than 20 minutes, you can't get service like that on the NHS can you !!
She's being spoilt now and has moved into the conservatory here at the house so we can keep an eye on her. Her owners are off to Spain in the morning but know what has happened and we'll be taking her for further checks at the Vets tomorrow.
As I say never a dull minute !!
Finally one of the visitors to the blog has set up a livejournal feed for the blog at http://bctrust.livejournal.com So, if you're an LJ user, you can be alerted on your "friends page" every time there's a new blog entry here - Thanks Stephanie.
Bye for now
